John Gurrola, Jr.  Supervisor of Maintenance

John Gurrola, Jr. has been a member of the Round Valley Indian Housing Authority staff going on his seventh year now.  He started back in 1999 working as security for the Administration building and its grounds.  From there, he gradually made his way into the Maintenance Department and became a maintenance person whose duties involved assisting and aiding the supervisor, Roy Britton.

Roy took John in and showed him everything there is to know about the maintenance department, including its involvement with the other programs of the Round Valley Indian Housing Authority.
There was a slight transition from being a security guard to becoming a maintenance man, but John adapted to this situation with ease.
The two productively worked side by side until a work-related injury forced Roy to retire, leaving John as acting Supervisor of Maintenance.  Unafraid of this challenge, John dove in head first into the supervisory role.  Utilizing the wisdom given to him by his mentor, John took it upon himself to preserve the efficiency of the Maintenance Department.
Besides the daily work orders, house inspections and unit rehabilitations, John also has involved himself and others in beneficial community events such as the Building Horizons annual Christmas and Easter programs as well as the Haunted House.
Using members of his immediate family as volunteers, he successfully conducted these programs for about four years.
Whether he was finding volunteers to serve seniors and be elves at the Christmas program, costuming kids up to be ghouls and ghosts in the Haunted House, or dressing up himself to portray Santa

Claus, John's involvement and dedication to the Housing doesn't stop at 5:00.
Apparently not having enough excitement in his life, John also became a Head Coach for the Covelo Colts' vintage football team.
With the help of Richard Aparicio, the two established the “Covelo Colts” team for the Vintage Youth Football League which is in its second season here in Covelo.
John also takes it upon himself to be “somewhat” personally responsible for the protection and well being of the seniors occupying the units on Pit River, he does this by taking time to talk to these tenants individually and doing what he can to help address these problem issues that they are having, whether it be a leaky faucet or a disruptive individuals disturbing their peaceful street.
John's outgoing services have been a valued asset to both the Round Valley Indian Housing Authority and our community and are greatly appreciated.

                                                                                       Thanks John!!!
