Proud Sponsor of the Round Valley Commons and Public Library Project
In 1978, Round Valley residents organized the Covelo Community Library and
continued to run and maintain it until 1990. At that time, Mendocino County
brought the library into their public system and began paying the salary of one
full-time Library Associate, along with supplying some equipment and a small
yearly new book allocation. At that time, the volunteers formed the "Friends of
the Round Valley Public Library", and have taken full responsibility over the
last 18 years, to raise the funds to pay the rent, utilities and janitorial
services and supplies, along with donating many books and volunteering many
hours to help run the library.
Mission: The stated purpose of the Friends of the Round Valley Public Library is "to
support and cooperate with the Round Valley Public Library in developing
library services and facilities for the community".

Goals: The current goals of the Friends group are to relocate, improve and expand the
library facility and to co-house a community center "Commons" to encourage and
support a full-range of educational opportunities, artistic activities,
community interactions and collaborations that encourage community health and
sustainability, with the Round Valley Public Library/Commons becoming "the new
heart of our community", bringing together the diverse groups that make up this
area.
